One place to look is windows updates.

Become to Settings > Windows Update > Update history. Ostend if any updates were installed on that engagement.

On the WIndows update page click on Advanced Options so Choose how updates are delivered.

On the "Chose how updates are delivered" folio if the start option is turned on, the MS is using your reckoner as a "mule" to deliver updates to other people. That would account for network utilise.

Also check in the Recycle bin, if someone was using your system and they were sloppy, there could be deleted files there ("sloppy" because there is an option to delete files without putting them in the recycle bin).

How-do-you-do, Paul, TCPIPView is safety, I would not put you lot wrong . . .

Actually TCPIPView is more for monitoring your network activity should this sort of thing happen again . . .

As for what was downloaded on eleven/16/2017 between v:30 PM and 6:xxx PM

In that location are 2 possible ways to find that out:

1.
Open Windows File Explorer and double click on your C Drive in 'This PC'

Click in the Search Box
The Search Ribbon should become agile
Click Date Modified driblet down and cull Today
Then click the blueish text in the search box, a calendar will announced
Select the 16th and requite it time to search - it tin be a while

In the resulting search, you should be able to see what downloaded . . .

2.
Click your Start Button, type Event Viewer and hit Enter
This will open the Event Viewer app
On the left, click the arrow abreast Windows logs to aggrandize information technology
For each log, click it and curl downward through the events to find that date and time
This might give you some clue as to what happened at that time and what was downloaded . . .

Sad, misdirected you. the Advanced Options is on the "Update Condition" page

Sorry, I practise not know of any manner of identifying what was up or downloaded during a specific time. At that place are many utilities that can monitor you internet use. The problem is that most of them focus on total volume and speed. Very few provide whatever ID for the file or program that is doing the up/downward loading.

http://www.cucusoft.com/netguard.aspx#CheckHist... is ane exception I institute in a QUICK search. Information technology at to the lowest degree identifies the programme doing the traffic.

You will have to do your own search to observe a improve suited awarding to place FUTURE traffic.

This article tells how to use built in tools to monitor network traffic, including application doing the piece of work:

Hi Dave,

I used the event viewer to view my PC activity for 11/16/2017 betwixt 5:00 PM and 6:30 PM. I see several warning letters and error messages. It appears something was trying to download and install some apps or security files, I'm not sure.

Could I email you a couple of screen shots of the effect viewer and get your feedback? I really do not understand what was occurring on xi/16/2017, but information technology did final for almost two hours and looks a bit suspicious to me. I do not see a way to attach screen shots on this community web site, perchance I tin answer back with the text?

Pitiful for all the questions.

Thank You Dave,

Paul

Hi Paul, lamentable i had to get some sleep . . .

Can yous do one thing for me:
Click your Start Button, type winver and hit Enter
In the resulting dialog, accept a note of what version No. of Windows 10 you lot are running (1709, 1703, 1607 . . . etc.)

Due to the amount of data that has been downloaded, I am gauge it was the Fall Creators Update that was downloading. If you are not running 1709, and so that is the most likely scenario . . .

Of you want to post screenshots you lot tin can practise that hither or upload them to the cloud (DropBox,OneDrive . . .etc.) and post a link hither and I will accept a look for you . . .
